This post was created a couple of days ago using WordPress… I am back to using Tumblr for the time being… so I don’t really feel like dancing anymore… but I will soon enough!
This is pretty much how I feel right now!
I am officially blogging from my first ever self-hosted WordPress.org account!!! Buh-Bye Tumblr!
This is super exciting! I like it soooooooo much better than Tumblr so far! No offense Tumblr, you have been GREAT, but it’s time for this blogger to grow up!
I have been working on Alizabet.com all day long today, trying to get everything perfect and exactly like my original blog. It’s been pretty tough! Now I understand why people HIRE other people to do a blog transfer. The coding is completely different from Tumblr to WordPress. What’s crazy is that I loved every minute of it! I would love to be a professional blog transferrer! (If that is indeed a job…)
I started with a very basic WordPress.org theme pictured below and went from there!

I imported all of my Tumblr blog posts & I TRIED to import all of my comments from Disqus but that is becoming a difficult task! I actually prefer the WordPress commenting system opposed to the Disqus one. WordPress’s is nice and clean! Very easy to understand for everyone wanting to comment.
Tumblr was one LONG HTML file which, for me, is SUPER easy to understand and edit. Now, WordPress on the other hand incorporates PHP, HTML and CSS. Plus there are Widgets and Plugins to incorporate! Initially I was a bit intimidated, but at this point I feel like I’m a PRO! I still have a lot to learn of course, but I am just so happy I finally made the decision to switch over. It’s really going to pay off!
Not much has changed… I no longer have my favorite “Tumblr Likes” that I loved in the right sidebar, but I’m thinking about adding my recent Pinterest Pins instead. I’m sure I could integrate the Tumblr Likes somehow… I shall save that for another day. I like having different visuals on my blog that are always changing!
This is a beautiful quote.!
I have received some feedback lately on my blog from readers. A lot of them are saying that my writing needs to improve and I need to find my “voice”. I couldn’t agree more! The writing part of my blog usually takes a backseat, which is so weird because that’s what a blog is supposed to be based on! I need to stop focusing on the quantity of my blog posts and more on the quality of my posts. So, this means to hell with the blogging schedule! I was trying to post 7 days a week… but with school, work, sleeping and eating that’s a bit overly ambitious! I’m going to try to post a couple times a week, I’m not laying down any ground rules or writing anything in stone!
Once I graduate in May 2013 I will be able to fully dedicate myself to blogging and doing freelance web & graphic design projects. Until then, sign up for my RSS feed so you can get my updates in your email! That is, if you like what you’ve read so far.
what a cute setup!
I know I need to find my “voice” when it comes to Alizabet.com. I want my blog to be about photography (I am really starting to get into it!), web development (I just discovered GitHub!), graphic design (my first love) and my life in general. I need to really focus in on these topics!
It can be really hard to choose a topic that you are extremely interested in. It can be even harder when the market is saturated with bloggers and photographers and web designers and graphic designers galore! It can be discouraging to know there is so much competition out there, and also knowing how much I still have to LEARN. I am still very much an amateur across the board and to be honest that scares me! As long as I keep learning and challenging myself I know I will succeed. Just got to keep my nose to the grindstone! Even though the market IS saturated with talented people like myself I have to remember…
On a side note, lately I’ve been using Pinterest images to create my blog posts. I still feel kind of weird doing this even though I know it’s fine… Anyways, I was researching other places to get photos for blog posts and I stumbled upon PHOTO PIN. They are AMAZING!!! All of the images used in this post I found on this site. Here’s a blurb from their About page:
PhotoPin helps bloggers find photos for their blog and makes adding them to their post fast and easy. Just search for any topic using the search box (ex: “HDR“, “wedding shoes“, etc.), preview the photo, and click “get photo” to download the photo as well as the proper attribution link. PhotoPin uses the Flickr API and searches creative commons photos to use for your blog.
Thank you for reading! I hope you got something out of this blog post!
I am just so happy to be on WordPress now!!! I can’t wait to make this blog better than ever before!!! Goodnight!
